International Artists in Residence
Program
Paricutin Volcano, Mexico

The youngest volcano in the world

Artist Residence in a purepecha village of Mexico

The Paricutin aroused an international interest in 1943, when it erupted and became the first and only volcano whose birth has been witnessed by a man until now. It has been immortalized by artists such as Diego Rivera, Gerardo Murillo "Dr. Atl", Alfredo Zalce, Pablo O'Higgins, Gust Van den Berghe or Peter Hutchinson, to name a few.
